SERVICES

LABOR RELATIONS

 

The associations provide labor relations and collective bargaining services for SMWIA Local 218S and UA Local 137 on behalf of the contractor members by representing the employers through a multi-employer bargaining group.

Through the collective bargaining process, the associations address many critical human resource issues as well, including programs for health and pension benefits, and excellent apprentice and journeyman training.

INDUSTRY DATA & INFORMATION

 

The associations maintain information and data specific to the local specialty construction industry.

 

MCA/SMACNA staff maintains relationships with many other industry organizations, providing access to and a voice in the local construction industry as a whole.

LEGISLATIVE INFORMATION

 

MCA provides legislative information and representation to our members at the State Capital by being a member of the Illinois Mechanical & Specialty Contractors Association.

BENEFIT FUND REPRESENTATION

 

The proper management of union health and welfare, penison and training funds are of paramount importance to both employers and employees.  Such funds fall under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and are required to be jointly trusted by both union and employe representatives.  The association ensures that qualified employer trustees serve on and report on the status of funds to which our members contribute.

EDUCATION and NETWORKING

 

The associations rountinely offer educational and training seminars on a variety of topics aimed at aiding your business be more successful as well as keeping you abreast of the latest industry trends.

 

Additionally, attending association meetings and events will introduce you to or keep you in contact with your peers in the industry.

The associations also provide contractors to serve on local dispute resolutions boards; professional staff is available to provide advice and guidance to its members in grievance and arbitration matters.

ABOUT THE ASSOCIATIONS

The Mechanical Contractors Association of Central Illinois (MCA) was established on April 17, 1997 as the local affiliate of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA).  MCA of Central Illinois is a 501C(6) non-profit trade organization representing 12 mechanical contracting firms who employ approximately 200 organized members of the United Association Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #137.  These highly trained journeymen and apprentices demonstrate their knowledge, skill, performance and dependability by responding to your needs promptly and efficiently as well as providing the highest level of service throughout the project. 

 

 

Our members install and service plumbing, process piping, refrigeration, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning for commercial and residential customers.  Some of our member firms also employ Sheet Metal Workers, Sprinklerfitters, and Laborers.  Located in Central Illinois, our jurisdiction encompasses the following counties: Cass, Logan, Menard, Morgan, Pike, Sangamon, and Scott, along with portions of Christian, Macon, Mason, Macoupin, and Montgomery.

 

 

Our Goals

 

 

MCA’s goal is to provide contractor members an industry-wide atmosphere conducive to the profitable execution of business and, in turn, to provide the consumer with the highest quality product at a fair price. By maintaining an environment of cooperation with our labor partners, we are able to achieve stable labor relations and realistic labor agreements beneficial to our members, their employees, and their customers.  The Association also provides opportunity for continuing management education and training, as well as involvement in local and state government affairs.

MCA's purpose is to provide education, research and training for the for the benefit of our members, to promote sound labor-management relations in the public interest and to assist our members in providing a safe and healthy working environment.

 

The Springfield and Vicinity Sheet Metal Contractors Associations was establised in 1969 as the local affiliate of the Sheet Metal Air Condtioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA).  Our members employ skilled union craftman from Sheet Metal Local 218 S.   The chapter serves members' needs to improve their competitive advantage and business environment through SMACNA construction and fabrication standards, industry education, labor relations, industry marketing and business studies.
